Our history
We’ve been keeping businesses running for three decades, proving ourselves as a supply partner. It is this drive for quality customer service that has underpinned our growth as we have acquired like-minded businesses along the way, ensuring quick steps into new regions.
It’s been an amazing journey. Here are a few of our milestones:
- Our business was formed in 1993, taking fuel to Canterbury farmers
- By 2000 we’d been contracted by Mobil as its sole South Island hauler
- Throughout 2003 we acquired three other fuel distributors, ensuring delivery into the West Coast, Otago and Southland
- In 2004 we purchased Kiwi Fuel Lines and Sherwood Petroleum, which saw the Allied brand become known in the lower North Island
- In 2004, after a sale of shares between joint venture partners, Allied Petroleum became a fully owned subsidiary of the HWR Group
- In 2008 “never run out” became our motto so our customers knew we understood the importance of having fuel on hand; it also signaled our commitment to important provincial markets
- In 2010 we purchased the Whangarei-based Kauriland Petroleum, who were a significant Mobil lubricants distributor and fuel hauler
- In the wake of the Canterbury earthquakes, we were proud to assist Civil Defence with critical fuel supply; with the local marine terminal damaged our fleet mobilised to truck in product from other South Island ports
- In 2011 we launched our own fuel card on the Paymark system
- As a means to expand into the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, in 2012 we formed a joint venture with Wealleans Petroleum – also a family owned business with a long history in the petroleum sector; we’ve since purchased the remaining business, with our brand becoming known on local roads
- By mid-2013 our total delivered fuel litres hit the one billion mark, and today we remain responsible for carrying over 25% of New Zealand’s day to day fuel needs
