The following series of events took place when a car was on fire at a New Zealand petrol station in 2014.
A vehicle with its engine on fire was driven into a petrol station. The driver parked the vehicle 6 metres away from the pumps and opened the car bonnet which caused the fire to intensify.
Employees at the site hit the emergency stop button when they saw the fire and proceeded to the forecourt with their fire extinguishers. The fire was put out by the driver of the vehicle as the employees did not know how to operate a fire extinguisher. Employees then cordoned off the vehicle with tape and cones.
